Alpheus agrogon Ramos, 1997
Alpheus agrogron is an eastern Pacific snapping shrimp found in rocky tidepools. As of 2010, known only from the type locality in Gorgona Island, Pacific Colombia.
The species name "Alpheus agrogron" corresponds to an anagram of Gorgona, and refers to the island where this species was first collected. Type locality: La Ventana, Gorgona Island, Colombia (Ramos 1997), types stored at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution (USNM). Holotype: USNM 259395.
This species lives in intertidal areas, in rocky tidepools with coralline sand (Ramos 1997).
Maximum body size (carapace length, or CL) of females is 6.5 mm (holotype) (Ramos 1997). Alpheus agrogon is morphologically similar to A. hyeyoungae and A. scopulus, but can be differentiated by the rounded inner inferior margin of the first pair of pereopods and the smooth ischium of the third and fourth pereopods lacking a moveable spine (for more details, see Ramos 1997).
