Alpheus perplexus Banner, 1956
Alpheus perplexus is an Indo-West Pacific snapping shrimp that belongs to the Obesomanus species group within the genus Alpheus. It has been collected from dead coral heads in the intertidal.
Alpheus perplexus belongs to the Obesomanus species group within the genus Alpheus (Banner 1956). Type locality: Mariana Islands (Banner 1956), types stored at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution (USNM). For additional descriptions, see Banner and Banner (1966, 1967).
This species has been collected from coral heads (Banner and Baner 1967).
Maximum body size is 20.4 mm total length (female allotype) (Banner 1956). Can be separated easily from related species A. chamorro by the shape of the major chela (rounded in A. chamorro, with deep sculpturing in A. perplexus) (Banner 1956).
